Inspired by William Scott – The Live and Learn project

29 October – 26 November 2013

Ten residents from Blair House, a Dementia Care facility in Newtownards, successfully took part in a Live and Learn outreach programme inspired by the William Scott exhibition at the Ulster Museum. The participants visited the exhibition and took part in collage making, drawing and screen printing workshops. The end results are three collaborative artworks inspired by the subject matter, colour palettes and compositions of Scott’s work. The participants chose titles for their artworks: Breakfast in Blue, Kitchen Jamboree and Oranges and Lemons. The artworks will be hung in Blair House for fellow residents and visitors to enjoy.

A similar project inspired by the William Scott exhibition will be running in January 2014. This project will link three Belfast Health and Social Care Trust Dementia care facilities.

The Live and Learn project

The Live and Learn project is a five year outreach project funded by the Big Lottery. The project seeks to develop opportunities for individuals in this age group to engage with the collections and exhibitions of National Museums Northern Ireland. Live and Learn programmes combine learning and creativity. Live and Learn’s aim is to work with individuals and groups from hard to reach communities. A core part of Live and Learn is developing programmes and workshops for individuals living with dementia.
