Human Presence

Seated Nude, 1939 or 1940
1 April 2015 – 31 March 2017

The Aberdeen Art Gallery is temporarily closed for a major redevelopment and refurbishment. In the meantime their collection is on loan to several venues.

Selected from the Gallery’s Fine Art collection this exhibition explores how artists capture a human presence, where their approach may be aesthetic, witty, playful, or sinister. Mid and late 20th century figurative painting and contemporary installation works are placed in a new context in the remarkable, historic setting of Drum Castle, including William Scott’s [Seated Nude], 1939 or 1940.
