The Heong Gallery will open with an exhibition of works from the private collection of Sir Alan Bowness, former Director of Tate and an alumnus of Downing College. Generation Painting 1955-65: British Art from the Collection of Sir Alan Bowness features works by an array of significant mid-twentieth-century British artists including major works by Patrick Heron, Allen Jones, Peter Lanyon and William Scott. Horizons: Kettle’s Yard at Jerwood Gallery

Kettle’s Yard was the Cambridge home of Jim and Helen Ede, who together created an impressive collection of British and European art. During his life, Jim had been a curator at Tate Gallery and described himself as a ‘friend of artists’, acquiring much of his collection through these friendships.
